Commandant's Message

During my long maritime career and later through my execution of the responsibility of Director General of Shipping,I envisaged a tremendous potentiality of the maritime sector to glorify our nation.

In fact, our contributions in every facet of maritime field and above all the global acceptance of our seafarer,created a dream in me.So,through establishment of the United Maritime Academy to create the future seafarers,I aspire to fulfill a segment of that dream.Of course,seafaring is not only just sensational and fascinating,it is also a lot of hard work and challenge of the unexpected.And that's what the United Maritime Academy is designed to prepare our youngsters for - a sense of courage and discipline,a strong foundation for team-work and a positive spirit to overcome the toughest odds.Students will stay,learn and work in a comfortable campus environment.Intensive training will be supported by in-house instructors,guest lecturers,visits presentations and demonstrations.Other supports include training in full mission simulators,well equipped laboratories,library of books & publications and internet facilities.The academy is also designed to provide a learning experience of the marine lifestyle through a vibrant campus that includes curricular and extra curricular activities,computer clubs,planned tours and standard academic ambience.After graduating from UMA and the year long internship on board merchant ships,work opportunities will be global for the life time.Since the service is contractual ranging from 4 to 9 months on each occasion, there is plenty of time to pursue other interests including academics.When one wants to settle ashore, there are plenty of rewarding opportunities for shore jobs both at home and abroad.

UMA is confident of telling everyone that the academy is committed to create proficient marine officers who can be trusted both in the practical and theoretical aspects of the seafaring industry.Qualified mariners have a world of opportunity ahead. United Maritime Academy offers an opportunity to provide outstanding education and training facilities for careers at sea.
